My July in Italy: New Adventures and a Taste of Rome

04.08.2024

Ciao again! It’s Hadeel Al Asseh, back with more stories from my time in Italy. July was a bit different from June because I finally started getting the hang of life in Milan. And guess what? I also got the chance to explore some amazing places outside the city!

Exploring Lake Como

One of the highlights of July was visiting Lake Como with a friend who flew in from Jordan. Lake Como is absolutely stunning, think crystal-clear waters surrounded by mountains, with picturesque towns lining the shores. We spent the day wandering through the charming streets, enjoying the beautiful views, and, of course, indulging in more Italian food. It was the perfect day trip and a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Milan.

Falling in Love with Rome

July also took me to Rome for the Arrival Week, and wow, I fell in love with the city! Rome is like stepping into a living history book, with ancient sites around every corner. I visited the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, and Vatican City.all of which were beyond impressive. But it wasn’t just the sights that won me over; the food was incredible too! I had the best carbonara of my life and found myself wishing I could stay in Rome forever.

Making New Friends

The Arrival Week in Rome wasn’t just about sightseeing, though. It was also a great opportunity to meet other volunteers from all over Italy. We shared stories, bonded over our experiences, and made plans to visit each other in the future. It was amazing to connect with so many like-minded people, and by the end of the week, I had a whole new group of friends.

Back to Milan: A Little More Italian

Returning to Milan after such an exciting trip was a bit of a reality check, but I was happy to be back in the office and get back to work. I’m starting to feel a little more Italian now, though my language skills are still a work in progress. I finished level A1 in Italian, but I haven’t signed up for the next level yet, oops! I know I need to practice more, so I’m planning to watch more Italian movies or maybe even force myself to chat with the locals in Italian. I guess I’ll get there eventually, one ciao at a time!

July was filled with new experiences, amazing trips, and great people. I can’t wait to see what the next month has in store for me in this beautiful country. Stay tuned for more of my Italian adventures!
