The projects are moving forward slowly, and we’ve been leaving our mark around the city in the form of stickers. I’ve felt really inspired by the project, because I love creative expression. It feels like things are gradually becoming more concrete.
This month has been full of encounters, traveling, and live music. Spring is at its most beautiful, and the trees are blooming. There is beauty everywhere, and as is typical in spring, people are emerging from their shells. The parks are full of people, with troubadours accompanying their evenings.
We traveled to Rome for a four-day training near Vatican City. From the hotel room window, the Vatican looked breathtakingly beautiful. I’ve really enjoyed the trainings within this project. It’s valuable to meet others who share somewhat similar experiences. There is something deeply meaningful in being able to support others while also receiving support yourself.
In the training, the most important topic for me was future plans. I’ve started to feel that I might not want to return to Finland after all. The idea of going back home feels contradictory. It feels like the world is opening up again in a completely different way. There’s a kind of emptiness in that feeling. I know that phases in life come to an end so that new ones can begin. I want to see the future as an opportunity, even though it feels quite open.
While reflecting in Rome, I realized that my journey to Italy has already answered some questions I didn’t even know I had been carrying. Everything always works out. Letting go of home and moving far away has deepened certain relationships. Before coming here, I was most worried about what would happen to my social relationships back in Finland. Now I know that I’m incredibly lucky and grateful for the people I have around me.
From Rome, I headed to Naples to meet a friend I had met during a previous training. In the end, we only had one evening together, but it was meaningful. I got to walk through Naples’ small and large streets with new acquaintances, sharing experiences of what it’s like to live in a foreign country and culture. We talked about absolutely everything. Naples was beautiful, perhaps chaotic, but also uniquely charming.
From Naples, I went to Milan for live music and spent a few days at the office before having visitors from home. My beloved mother, sister, and a friend came to see me and spend a holiday in Italy. My family and I had lots of travel plans ahead, so I took a longer break from the office to enjoy every moment.
I spent the rest of the month in Tuscany, in a small village and a very soulful place to stay. This is exactly what I’ve needed,
beloved people around me and simple beauty.
